Are wet cat treats better for cats than dry treats?
They serve different purposes. Wet cat treats carry more water: Delectables® carry up to 93% moisture in Lickable™ Treat pouches and up to 90% in Squeeze Up® and Lickable Spoon™, against up to 10% moisture for a crunchy (dry) treat.
Cats also have a low thirst drive and do not fully make up the difference by drinking. In a 2011 study in the British Journal of Nutrition, cats fed a dry diet took in about 30% less total water than cats fed a high-moisture diet, even though they drank roughly six times as much from the bowl. Diet drives most of a cat's water intake, so a wet treat is a small addition rather than a replacement. That makes wet cat treats useful alongside dry food, particularly for cats who do not drink much on their own.
